ARE YOU MISSING YOUR YOGA??????
Since the studio closing, I would like to catch up with you!
We made it through another year. I don’t know about you, but I am happy to be moving on from 2015 and all it’s challenges. Yoga teachers are human…
One of the joys of this past year, was sharing yoga and yoga therapy at Chalfont Yoga and Meditation Center. Thank you all for that opportunity. While we are all getting settled, I am offering HOUSE CALLS and occasional classes at my house, including tea and even delicious soup! BECAUSE I LOVE YOGA AND I LOVE FEEDING PEOPLE.
You’ll find a tremendous offer at the end of this e-mail. First, I want to re-cap 2015, how it kicked me in the teeth, and how I made it through. I’m going to start with the happy stuff and then the rough stuff, and finally what I’ve learned that makes it all feel better. If you’d like to skip down to the bottom, go right ahead. THE OFFER ENDS MONDAY!
I have always had the role of caretaker! You know, caring for the sick, the elderly, the disabled, the less fortunate. I fed, clothed, drove, comforted. I was the go to girl!! ALL OF THAT WAS CHALLENGED THIS YEAR. It was scary and uncomfortable. I was now required to accept all of those things. To be a good receiver!
I had to be truly empty, to be filled. For that I am grateful.
I started 2015 with some very painful physical stuff. I could barely use my right arm. I couldn't even hold a spoon! I suffered through this for about a month. Lucky for me, I have a wonderful mentor, who taught me new yoga poses over the phone. It took about two weeks to fully resolve what I recall to be a very scary condition.
March was both challenging and exciting. We had a beautiful baby shower “Make Way for Auroroa” In April, we welcomed my granddaughter, Aurora Rose Bliss. She brings us so much joy! I bless every day we spend together.
In June, I married my Big Love, Barakat. Sadly, circumstances kept us mostly apart until October, when we both moved to Chalfont. We are so supportive of each other, and so happy. Although he will be out of the country until March to visit his family in the Middle East. Thankfully, he is in one of the safer areas, not currently under threat. He took medical supplies there, and recently spent a day with orphans from Bagdad. I’m very proud of him for his bravery, generosity and compassion.
This was my cosmic smack down this year; In March, my driving privileges were revoked for six months due to an erroneous EEG reading by my neurologist. Nevertheless I still found a way to the studio (an hour away from where I lived) every week to bring yoga to you in Chalfont. Let me just say….this was a stressor. If you have ever been unable to drive, you know what I mean. It makes you dependent. It takes away the freedoms you enjoy. It makes it really hard to make a living. It isolates you from friends and family. It gives you a lot of time alone. This was finally resolved in November. I was able to see the bright side. I enjoyed time and conversation with friends in their cars. I practiced gratitude and patience with the situation. I used Japa during the alone times. Japa is perhaps my favorite yoga tool. The silent repetition of mantra brings so much calm even in the midst of trouble. It made it easier to accept the things I couldn't change.
In October, Aislyn and Aurora moved in with us. We LOVE having them here, although they are added dependents (my daughter is looking for work). I am happy to help my daughter in any way I can. I absolutely love seeing Aurora's smile in the morning. She is THRIVING! She is standing on her own at 8 months. She's as tall as a 10 month old, and as heavy as a two-year-old! She looks just like the Gerber Baby I swear!
What did I learn in 2015?
I learned… that I am blessed with some really great friends who will drive me around from time to time.
… that I have the ability to see the beauty and ease in the stuck places.
…that I can assist childbirth.
...that I can move four times in one year.
…that despite past heartbreak, I can still love openly and wholly.
…that JP (rotated stomach pose) still calms every fiber of my being when life seems like too much. I did an awful lot of JP!
…that Ujjayi (breathing) can take me to new levels of awareness and healing.
…I still LOVE teaching you this yoga.
…how to really surrender to life and trust the process no matter how painful.
…to be truly grateful. Grateful for a place to sleep, people to love, and for my health.
…that I always have a deep well of peace. I have yoga
.…yoga keeps me sane and mostly happy.
